The “Keio University 55th Anniversary Seminar” was held in Maui this past weekend, taught by Shinichi Tohei Sensei, President and Chief Instructor of Shin-shin Toitsu Aikidokai. The seminar marked the 55th year since the founding of the Keio University Aikido Club by the late Tohei Sensei. It also coincided with the 55th anniversary of Maui Ki-Aikido Dojo, which was established following Tohei Sensei’s historic visit to Hawaii in 1957.
A few of us were fortunate enough to be able to attend this excellent seminar. It was very well attended, and we had a great time working with the students from Keio University. As always, we came back with lots of new things to chew on…
Below is a video of one of our students getting instruction on how to Keep One Point from Shinichi Tohei Sensei.
Another great highlight was the recognition of Aunty Olive Silva Day! Olive Silva is 90 years old and has been practicing Ki-Aikido for over 55 years. She holds a 6th degree black belt and is a strong inspiration to everyone who knows her. She was officially recognized this past weekend with the government of Maui declaring September 16 to be Aunty Olive Silva Day. Congratulations!
